Almost a year passed sice Joomla became a real CMS. Now it's time to make a little study to find if it's still growing and if it's more powerful than Mambo. A few days ago Google released Google Trends , a nice and helpful tool for webmasters. This study is based on searches made by regular users on Google. I must say that this tool has a small problem. It doesn't show the number of searches (probably milions) but you will see that it give us a clue where Joomla is compared to Mambo.

It's the timeless question: how do you get other sites to link to you? The most commonly discussed ways are reciprocal linking (swapping links) and buying links. Yet there's another important tool for building links that should be a part of your toolbox: distributing content in exchange for one-way inbound links.

Based on our last week poll we have noticed that a small number of webmasters are using Joomla for blogging. I think that Joomla is offering a very well endowed environment and maybe the Joomla dev team should focus on attracting as many bloggers as possible. Right now, as you read these lines, there are more than 30 million bloggers all over the world ...and counting. Even if a great deal of them is using free bolggs, there are plenty of them that own or wish to buy their own blogging domain. If those would be attracted to Joomla, the number of Joomla users would exponentially increase. 

News & Media took the cherry off the cake’s top on our poll last week. For about a week our visitors had the chance to vote the domain their Joomla website was. News & Media took the majority of the votes, 18% of our voters having their website based on that domain. We have expected that given the fact that Joomla is offering a very good way of managing the content, simplicity and an easy utilization. 

I was asked by a friend of mine a couple of days ago about the reason I was so excited about Joomla. That made me look with an objective eye at this CMS and gave me the idea about writing this editorial presenting the best parts and some minuses that Joomla has.

There is a new stream amongst the web designers all around the world. And that is designing with standards. That is a great and good thing to do. Some rules must be followed so that everyone would have the same experience when visiting a website no matter the browser they are using. Designing a website that is standard compliant means a certain maturity of that web designer and a great plus for him. 

“Le roi est mort, vive le roi!”. This expression meaning “The king is dead, long live the king!” is the first that comes to my mind when thinking about Joomla!, its history and its community.

A time not so long ago I discovered something that changed my perception about building sites, about building informational architecture and finally but not the last, it changed my view about web communities. That something was named Mambo and it was about to become the most popular CMS at its time.

Joomla offers you more possibilities to add content to your website. Joomla is a Content Managenent System and need to offer various option to add content.

The "classic" way is to create contents with sections and categories. To add a single page you need to create a Section. In that section you can create one or more Categories. The pages can be added in Categories. Below you can see an example:
